WatchWatch
A nice satirical take on the way technology has fundamentally changed the business model. I’ve just finished Seth Godin’s Meatball Sundae which is an extremely clear and concise explanation of why it’s no good just adding ‘cool’ new tools - instead, we need to reinvent from the bottom up. This is the 3rd Industrial Revolution, after all…

Antoine The Dolphin
I’m taking part in Orange’s internet ballon race, Baloonacy, because I think it’s a brilliant idea for making heroes of the tariff animals. And it should be a laugh. I’ve also submitted the blog to be one of the sites in the race. I would add the funky widget to the blog but it doesn’t support Tumblr :( Please give Antoine, my dolphin, a cheer if you see him...

Back with a chuckle
Haven’t posted for a while but got some laughs for you. Tim has flagged up this new Oz comedy, Summer Heights High. Similar mockumentary format to The Office, Spinal Tap etc. but set in a school in Melbourne. The three main characters (Jonah - affable bully; Mr. G - uber camp drama teacher; Ja’mie King - spoilt & arrogant airhead) are played by Chris Lilley. Could be great by...

Plum content
Work Club have created some really nice content for Plum baby food. It’s a series of online videos for parents to watch with their babies. The agency were advised by a child psychologist on the content and there are various tips which pop up during each film that explain to parents how they can make the experience even more interactive for their babies. Useful, entertaining and spot on...

A mixture of pure talent and hard work has provided us with this 7 mins. treat. The most exceptional thing I’ve seen for a long time.                 MUTO a wall-painted animation by BLU from blu on Vimeo. (via dbg)

South-West Comedians
Saw this at Waterloo yesterday and it made me chuckle. For those who aren’t lucky enough to know, Surbiton is a rather bland London suburb so the fact that the train operator is apologising for going via the town strikes a chord. Shame that South-West trains are enough of a joke for it to be an unnecessary effort.

F.I.T. (Found In Translation)
I thought it might be interesting to grab some stills from famous films and mix it up by using foreign subtitles. I’m calling these F.I.T.’s (Found In Translation). I used a trial version of Corel WinDVD 9 and I’m quite happy with the result. I like the effect that the foreign subtitles have on the finished image. [Translations are here.] I also really like it when you...

The über
I describe the fashionistas who strut down streets around the world as ‘the über’ (just because I’m like that). Well, the eagle-eyed peeps at VICE have been watching them and have reported back in the Global Trend Report ‘08. My favourite extract from the London bit: “rap fans used to be happy to line up for hours outside the BAPE shop to pay a few hundred pounds...

Why not make it brilliant?
Google offices, Zurich: Brilliant.  So, today Coldplay released the first single of their next album for free on their website. This post isn’t about the track itself - I imagine there’ll be plenty of chat about that elsewhere. Believe it or not, this post is about an email. Yes, an email. The email in question is the one I received with the link to the track download. It looks like...

It's in the game
Nike’s got a new Guy Ritchie-directed footie ad out. It’s all shot in the first-person and puts you in the John Malkovich-esque head of an amateur footballer who quickly finds himself playing for Arsenal and Holland after ‘taking it to the next level’ with Nike’s boots and Boot Camp video training. Odd that they’ve chosen the Manchester Utd vs. Barcelona...

Topic of the week 2: Bad rapping
Everyone loves a bad rap. - Ze’s Nerd Rap Battle: Geeky. - Eminem, the choke artist: Famous. - Bowser raps in Super Mario Bro’s: Italian plumbing. - French-Canadian Dr. Moreau children’s TV rap: Genuinely freaky. - Finally, “The Worst Ever”, apparently: Awkward. 10 years of GTA
Possibly the most controversial game ever made has turned 10 this year and the much anticipated GTA IV is out worldwide tomorrow. I think the series is quite an interesting case study of how far we’ve come in terms of the detail, scale and graphics of video games in a relatively small timeframe. Undoubtedly, the next ten years will bring more of the same with games reaching a frightening...

Under Tom's Influence
This slideshow is the fruit of Tom’s labours at Under the Influence. Love Shaun McIlrath’s point that we should be ‘fanatical’ about consumers. Although, I’ve always preferred the words ‘people’ or ‘citizens’ to ‘consumers’. I find that the latter can be cold and distant. Probably because it’s a word based in the theory of...

Shame
I wrote about Ecocho, the ‘green’ search project here.  Well now Google has withdrawn, leaving Yahoo! to do all the searching from the site. A bit odd given Google are an organisation that seems to prioritise saving the planet. It has something to do with the way Ecocho were using Adsense that Google weren’t happy about. There’s more on Ecocho’s blog here....

Comical musings
I’m lucky enough to be going to the London premiere of Iron Man tomorrow. It’s the first film to come out of the newly created Marvel Studios. All of Marvel’s previous outings (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spiderman and Hulk) have been plain old license deals. They’ve generated billions of dollars in billings and so it’s no wonder that Marvel have managed to raise...
